The Gonzaga Bomb Squad

Established in 2003, Bomb Squad is a student-led hip hop dance team at Gonzaga University. They perform at men’s and women’s basketball games, volleyball games, and various other opportunities including GEL Weekend, Welcome Weekend, alumni events, and the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas! We have also participated in annual fundraisers and community events such as the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Zagathon. Our team has previously competed at the UCA 2013 Regional Competition in Tacoma, WA and at the 2015 UDA Regional Competition in Anaheim, CA. We are a team that shares a passion for dance, as all our members come from a variety of different dance backgrounds. Most importantly, we pride ourselves on being a close-knit family of compassionate, positive, and dedicated dancers.

We practice twice a week and are open to all students on campus. We have tryouts once per year in mid-September following the club fair. Informational meetings for those interested in joining our team will be held during early September... look for more information around campus, at the club fair, or by following our Instagram: @gu_bombsquad. More information about the team and how to contact the Captains can be found below, along with more frequently asked questions!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can audition for the team?

Bomb Squad is open to any student at the university! Students of all years, majors, gender identities, and dance backgrounds can try out for the team.

What if I want to study abroad and be on the team?

Studying abroad as a member of Bomb Squad is common. Dancers who wish to go abroad will be a member of the team for the whole year, but will only be expected to maintain the time and performance commitments for the team during the semester they are in Spokane.

What happens during team practices?

Bomb Squad practices on two nights each week, during which they bond, strengthen, learn choreography, and practice performance routines. Practice typically consists of announcements, team building activities, cardio and stretching, and learning or perfecting choreography.

What styles does the team perform?

Bomb Squad performs, broadly, dances based in a Hip Hop style. Because routines are choreographed primarily by different dancers on the team, our dances may incorporate Hip Hop styles such as breaking, popping, or house, as well as elements from styles like contemporary or jazz funk.

What are the benefits to being a dancer on the Gonzaga Bomb Squad?

Being a member of the Gonzaga Bomb Squad provides personalized uniforms, a team backpack, team shoes, and various team merchandise provided throughout the year. Most importantly, the team provides dancers with a special community made up of passionate and hardworking teammates, offering an unique way to get involved at Gonzaga!

What is the cost of being on the Gonzaga Bomb Squad?

Because we are a student-led club, there are club dues paid at the beginning of the season, primarily to cover the cost of the items given to dancers on the team. Club dues vary depending on the year, but are typically between $300 and $400. When dancers travel to Las Vegas for the basketball tournament in March, we typically also require a Vegas fee of around $100 per dancer to cover any outstanding travel and housing costs. All other items and opportunities are supported through year-long fundraising efforts by the team and generous donations!
