Gonzaga University's Jazz Studies Program consists of four jazz combos, the jazz ensemble, jazz history classes and jazz improvisation lessons offered on every instrument.  The Jazz Performance Minor prepares students to continue performing jazz after completing their degree regardless of career choice.  Jazz educators/guest artists are invited each year to perform with the Jazz Ensemble and Combos as well as conduct  jazz theory clinics or instrumental master classes. Among the guest artists Gonzaga has hosted in the past are John Clayton, Shelly Berg, Pete Christleib, Bobby Shrew and Conrad Herwig.

Jazz Studies is directed by David Fague, Senior Lecturer of Music, who is an active performer in the Spokane jazz community including the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Hot Club of Spokane and other ensembles.

The Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece big band that provides students the opportunity to perform some of the best big band literature from classic big bands like the Count Basie and Stan Kenton Orchestras to more modern writers such as Maria Schneider.  The Jazz Ensemble regularly plays at the Bing Crosby Theatre in downtown Spokane as well as on campus.

Students interested in the Jazz Ensemble should contact David Fague atfague@gonzaga.edu.

Auditions take place at the beginning of each semester.
