The Jazz Ensemble is one of the most popular musical groups on campus. This 18-piece big band gives students the opportunity to perform some of the best big band literature since the 1930s.
The jazz ensemble performs informal concerts at the Crosby Student Center each semester to a standing-room-only audience and also provides music for Gonzaga’s winter formal dance event, Charity Ball.
Each Spring Gonzaga invites a guest artist to perform with the Jazz Ensemble in addition to providing theory clinics, instrumental master classes, and rehearsals with the Jazz Ensemble and Combos. Among the guest artists Gonzaga has hosted in the past are John Clayton, Shelly Berg, Pete Christleib, Bobby Shew, and Conrad Herwig.
Students interested in joining the Jazz Ensemble will need to audition during the first week of classes each Fall. Information about these auditions as well as auditions for other groups in the music department will be posted in the main music building.
