GSRP also pays travel expenses for faculty and students to attend the annual Murdock College Science Research Conference, where students report their research results to an audience of science faculty and students from undergraduate institutions across the Pacific Northwest. Similar presentations are made at GSRP’s Annual Poster Session held on the Gonzaga campus, usually as part of the university’s Fall Family Weekend. Another GSRP activity is the O’Leary Distinguished Scientist award. Each year a distinguished scientist from a major research university or institute visits Gonzaga for two or three days, mainly to meet with our science majors. The visiting scientist delivers a technical lecture and is officially introduced as the O’Leary Distinguished Scientist at a public lecture geared to general audiences. This program exposes our undergraduates to the next level of science research and helps them define their career plans. GSRP is administered by a Program Officer with an Advisory Committee made up of the three Science Department Chairs. The Advisory Committee sets policy, approves procedures, and makes certain decisions such as the funding of faculty proposals for research. Further information can be obtained from the GSRP Program Officer, Howard L. Glass, Ph.D.
