Eighteenth Annual Conference on Undergraduate Research

murdock

Gonzaga University hosts more than 450 science students and faculty advisors from about two dozen Pacific Northwest private colleges and universities October 30-31 for the 18th Regional Conference on Undergraduate Research of the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust’s College Science Research Program.

The conference features a keynote address by Dr. Clyde A Hutchison, Distinguished Professor for the J. Craig Venter Institute and Professor Emeritus at University North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   Students will present over 210 posters, and eight student projects will be highlighted.   A total of 51 Gonzaga students are presenting the results of their research.

The mission of the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust’s College Science Research Program is to strengthen faculty and undergraduate student research efforts in the natural sciences. Grants are awarded to institutions with the capacity for developing division-wide, faculty-student research programs that can be sustained with institutional resources and external funding. To date, nine colleges have been admitted into the program: Gonzaga University, Lewis & Clark College, University of Puget Sound, Whitman College, Linfield College, Northwest Nazarene University, Pacific Lutheran University, Willamette University, and the University of Portland.

The Gonzaga Science Research Program (GSRP) helps faculty obtain funding for their research and providing research opportunities for undergraduate science majors.    For more information on the conference, contact Howard Glass, GSRP program officer and director of the Inland Northwest Natural Resources Research Center (INNRRC) at (509) 313-3888 or glassh@gonzaga.edu.
