Austin is from Rathdrum, Idaho and was educated in the Northwest where he earned a B.F.A. in Painting and Printmaking from Western Washington University and an M.F.A. with the same specialization at Washington State University.

He uses his artwork to explore human conflicts, mainly focusing on exclusion, exploitation and inequality.  His paintings and drawings juxtapose dichotomous social relationships that are intended to be troubling for the viewers in order to pose questions about human nature, and the absurdity of the modern condition.

When he's not working or making art, he generally spends his time making music and going on trips in the outdoors, camping and rock climbing.  Travel, meeting new people and experiencing nature help keep things in perspective and to  remember how much there is to wonder about in our home, the universe.
