Mary Jo Bona

A former Gonzaga English professor and one of the seven founders of the Women’s and Gender Studies program at Gonzaga, Dr. Bona will be the keynote speaker for the WGST 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Dr. Bona’s talk, entitled “Twenty-Five Years and Counting: Women’s Studies as a Field and the Queer Daughter’s Voice,” will reflect on her participation in and the history of WGST at Gonzaga and then focus on the role of mothers and daughters in Alison Bechdel’s Are You My Mother?

Her publications include Women Writing Cloth: Migratory Fictions in the American Imaginary, By the Breath of Their Mouths: Narratives of Resistance in Italian AmericaClaiming a Tradition: Italian American Women Writers, and a book of poetry, I Stop Waiting For You.

This event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a catered reception.
