    This service position provides opportunities for participants to have a tangible impact on the lives of students and teachers by advancing climate literacy in our region. Teachers and students are eager to learn more about how to integrate climate literacy into the classroom and their lives outside of school. Additionally, Outreach Specialists will have the opportunity to mentor Gonzaga undergraduate Climate Literacy Fellows as they develop lessons, learn teaching best practices, and engage with local elementary students.

    The CivicSpark Fellow(s) support the Climate Resilience Project in building resilience to extreme heat and wildfire smoke in the Inland Northwest. They have the opportunity to work with community partners such as local health districts, the City of Spokane's Office of Emergency Management, local community centers, and others to keep our community safe from extreme heat and smoke events.

    The Institute’s Climate Resilience Project works to build community resilience to extreme heat and wildfire smoke events in the Inland Northwest. We hire undergraduates to serve as Climate Project Assistants (CPAs). CPAs attend community events on behalf of the Institute, carry out research, and offer general support to the Climate Resilience Project. 
  • Climate Literacy Fellows: Hiring usually begins in March.
    The Institute’s Climate Literacy Project works with K-12 students and teachers to advance the understanding of the social, cultural, and scientific causes of climate change. We hire undergraduates to serve as Climate Literacy Fellows. Fellows work in teams to deliver targeted climate literacy activities in K-8 classrooms in the Spokane area.
