About the Theatre and Dance Department

Our Theatre and Dance Department trains and develops artists in theatre performance, technical theatre, and dance. We offer a bachelor’s degree and minor in both theatre arts and dance.

Our students train in studio classrooms specially designed for acting, directing, dance and design. The acting studio is a free space for explorations in scene study. Our dance studio is fully equipped for all classes, from ballet to hip-hop, with a sprung floor, mirrors, barres and a sound system. Each year, we present two main-stage theatrical productions in addition to several other note worthy productions. These productions take place in Gonzaga’s Magnuson Theatre, a 218-seat modified thrust stage and the new Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center.

Our department is home to Gonzaga University Theatre Sports (GUTS), a student improv comedy club, and Dance Club. We also offer professional workshops and host guests artists, including professional actors, dance professionals, fight choreographers, directors of training institutes in London and New York City, casting directors and Hollywood screenwriters.

Graduates of our department are prepared for careers in the performing arts and opportunities in education, commerce, scientific research and other fields. Alumni have joined regional theatre companies, worked on sitcoms and independent films, and earned master’s degrees from prestigious graduate programs.
