Education & Curriculum Vitae

M.F.A., Painting & Drawing, University of Texas at San Antonio

B.F.A., Painting, Baylor University

Jennifer Seo is an artist that makes drawing-scultpures of everyday objects. Through recreating objects found in family photographs and lore, her work considers what it means to be a second-generation Korean American. Her making process is intentionally repetitive and careful, working with purposefully fragile materials like paper. The meticulous labor elevates the handmade objects through the time and care spent producing them.

Seo holds an MFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a BFA in Painting from Baylor University. In summer 2023, she was an artist in residence at Stoveworks in Chattanooga, TN. Before coming to Gonzaga, she taught at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN where she received an EXL faculty grant and won an Outstanding EXL Faculty Award in Spring 2023. Her recent solo exhibitions include shows at Delta State University’s Fielding Wright Art Center Gallery in Cleveland, MS; Smith College’s Oresman Gallery in Northampton, MA; Penn State’s Sheetz Gallery in Altoona, PA; and the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art (CICA) Museum in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
