Leadership & Hardiness - Read the article

This course, that culminates in a climb up Mt. Adams in Washington State, is an experiential learning opportunity around personal hardiness and organizational resiliency.  It is offered in the summer semester.  Check out the article and watch for more information regarding summer scheduling.

Once in a Blue Moon. . .

August 31, 2012 - a second full moon in the month.  And ORGL has proof that sometimes things do happen once in a blue moon!

ORGL meetup

Nine years ago, one man from Iowa and one man from Washington were serving in Iraq together.  They didn't know each
other before this time.  In fact, it was unusual that this particular
unit pulled in soldiers from several parts of the country.  After their
service overseas, each man went their separate way.

Fast forward to August 2012, the first day of the ORGL 502 - Leadership & Imagination residency course.  Michael from Washington sees Ross from Iowa and says, "Didn't you serve with me in Iraq back in 2003?"  Yes, he did.  Proof that the world is small, and that great leaders gather to learn and grow at Gonzaga University in the MA in Organizational Leadership program. Blue moons, chance meetings, and imaginations abound!

Leadership & Hardiness Course - Partnering with Non-Profit

Peak7Adventures and Gonzaga's Leadership & Hardiness course are partnering to support at-risk youth of the Pacific Northwest.  As part of this partnership, Gonzaga is assisting with fundraising efforts to provide needed finances to take underprivileged youth on an expedition to Mt. Baker in Washington State.  Peak7 Adventures is an organization in Spokane that has branched out to Portland and Seattle to serve underprivileged youth. There are infinite lessons and life-skills learned in the wilderness that contribute to a hardiness pathway leading towards resiliency. This partnership between Gonzaga University and Peak7 is also in response to numerous requests by ORGL & COML students interested in enrolling in a course that has a social justice piece in tandem with action. Our class will be responsible for raising funds to sponsor the expedition to Mt.Baker. Our students will also be able to emotionally support the youth in preparation for their expedition by following and commenting in their group blog.

If you are interested in helping with our fundraising efforts, or would like to learn more about this partnership - please click on the logo below or visit this website:

Students spend April 2011 in Romania with United Nations

Four of our COML/ORGL students (Caitlin, Chris, Brittany & Naomi) are spending the month of April studying in Romania and accompanying refugees while working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. They have been hard at work since they began the process in early March. All four students are passionately engaged in studying about global issues related to global conflict, displacement, human rights, geo politics, and foreign affairs issues in the context of communication and leadership. Additionally, students have been learning about resiliency, accompaniment, and value-based planning & assessment, to be applied through field experience and an ethnographic lens. They invite you to share in their experience by following their blogs linked below:
