Guest Policies for the Gonzaga-in-Cagli Project
The Gonzaga-in-Cagli Project is an academic program based in Cagli, Italy and part of the Masterʼs Program in Communication and Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University. The Program is nontraditional in terms of learning modules (as opposed to traditional classes) with both lab time and field work necessary to master the class competencies and the more natural experiential learning that comes with cultural immersion. Due to the design of the course, students are busy with class work most of the normal class day. In addition, the Project and has an opening two day tour and there is independent short-term weekend travel. It is important that visitors to the program do not distract students from their engagement in the program and their ability to immerse themselves in Italian culture. One successful formula is for visitors to come at the conclusion of the Program and continue independent travel in Italy or other European locations.
Visitors to the Cagli Project can make reservations for accommodations at either of two hotels:

Long-Term Guests
From time-to-time, a student may need to have a guest accompany them for the entire program. We will review applications for these guests on a case-by-case basis. A guest request will need to be made to Shannon Zaranski (zaranski@gu.gonzaga.edu) by formal letter. The letter should include the reason for the guest as well as a general statement about the health of the guest. If a guest were accepted to join a student on the program the following guidelines would apply:
-
All student guests must pay the non-negotiable, standard fee and deposit outlined by the University. This price covers the cost of housing, some transportation and some meals but does not include the price of using the school or computer lab, translators, or faculty time. When private hotel stays are desirable the guest should arrange this directly. For long-term guests, we will do our best to find shared apartment accommodation with the sponsoring student.
-
Student guests will not be able to participate in the classes for which students are working towards their final projects.
-
The Conversational Italian and Intercultural class could be made available to guests for a small supplemental charge.
-
All student guests must be in reasonably good physical and mental health, having the ability to travel, manage their luggage, and walk on average of one-two miles per day. Although the town of Cagli does have a hospital available in the case of an emergency situation, and private doctors and pharmacies for minor illnesses, each student guest should be without major pre-existing health conditions that would prevent them from joining in program activities available to all participants. Guests would be expected to complete a health questionnaire as part of the application process.
-
Guests on the program will need to sign a waiver not holding Gonzaga University responsible for accident or injury and will have to show proof of health insurance. Gonzagaʼs liability and travel insurance policy only covers students
