Research

Kathleen has been directing the theatre program at Gonzaga since the Fall semester of 2012. Before coming to Gonzaga, Kathleen was based in the UK at the University of Oxford, where she completed her graduate and postdoctoral work. Her most recent post was as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant on the AHRC-funded theatre project 'Out of the Wings' (www.outofthewings.org).

Kathleen's D. Phil. research took place within the context of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Spanish Golden Age Season in 2004-05. She was hired as a rehearsal dramaturg and literal translator for the RSC and participated in the daily rehearsal processes for Laurence Boswell’s The Dog in the Manger and stayed on to perform a similar role for Mike Alfreds’s Pedro, the Great Pretender. She is currently revising the thesis as a monograph.

Teaching and Directing

Kathleen teaches theatre from the perspective of performance. Using both classroom and studio-based methods, she has taught at the University of Oxford, lectured on the Finalists course at the University of Cambridge, and taught drama at the University of Sussex. At Gonzaga she teaches a variety of courses for the Theatre and Dance Program. Highlights from her theatre work include working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, bringing a series of one-act plays to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, directing Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia in New College, Oxford, and co-producing a one-woman show about yoga at Theatre 503 in London.

Suzanne Ostersmith has taught theatre and dance at Gonzaga since 2000.  She is the founding director of the Dance Programs here at Gonzaga and at Whitworth University.

Her studies took her to UC San Diego, American Conservatory Theatre, San Francisco and British American Drama Academy, Oxford England, and she enjoyed a professional theatre/dance career on the West Coast.  She has an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College.

Previous Gonzaga Directing and Choreographing credits include A Chorus Line (choreographer), Chicago, Urintown (choreographer), The Crane Wife, Seussical, Weaving Our Sister's Voices 2006/2009, Zink, Pippin, The Honorable Urashima Taro, Medieval Mysteries, Once Upon A Mattress (choreographer) as well as Spring Dance Concerts, 2002-2013.

Deanna L. Zibello is a Lecturer in the Theater and Dance Program, teaching courses in design and stagecraft. Deanna earned her undergraduate degree from Williams College in 1998, and her MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Washington School of Drama in 2009.

Deanna also works as a freelance scenic and lighting designer throughout the Northwestern US. Her favorite productions outside of GU include Ana in el Tropico with Miracle Theater Group (Portland), MilkMilkLemonade with Impact Theater (Berkeley), Cancer:The Musical with Washington Ensemble Theater (Seattle), Artifacts of Consequence with the Satori Group (Seattle), and Eugene Onegin, Big Love, Arabian Nights, and Jane Eyre while earning her MFA at the University of Washington.

Deanna has been nominated for a 2012 Gregory Award in Outstanding Scenic Design for her work on Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train with Azeotrope (Seattle). She was awarded the Windy City Times' After Dark Award for Outstanding Scenic Design in 2005 for her work on Middle-Aged White Guys.
