Gabriella Brooke
Professor Department of Modern Languages E. 502 Boone Ave. AD Box 46 Spokane, WA 99258-0046 Phone: 313-6655 Office Location Office Hours Monday, Wednesday 1:00 - 2:00 Professor Brooke holds a degree as translator from the University of Trieste, Italy,1967, M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University,1982, M.A. in Romance Languages from the University of Washington,1988, and M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University, 1991. Her main areas of interest are Italian Women Writers, the Italian Historical Novel, and Literary translation. Professor Brooke is the author of The Words of Bernfrieda, a historical novel set in Southern Italy at the time of the Norman conquest, EWU Press, 1999. She is co-editor, with Dr. Maria Marotti of a collection of essays on the historical novel written by women Gendering Italian Fiction: Feminist Revisions of Italian History, Associated University Presses,1999. Professor Brooke translated The Words of Bernfrieda into Italian, for Italian publisher Sellerio, with the title Le parole di Bernfrieda, Palermo, 2001. |

Torunn Haaland
Assistant Professor Department of Modern Languages E. 502 Boone Ave. AD Box 45 Spokane, WA 99258-0046 Phone: 313-3898 Office Location Office Hours Professor Haaland holds undergraduate degrees in Italian and Social Anthropology from the University of Oslo, and a BA in Media Studies from the University of Wales, Cardiff. She completed an MA and PhD in Modern Italian Studies at the University of Indiana. Her publications include articles on Italian cinema and culture as well as a book titled Italian Neorealist Cinema.
