Startalk Chinese Language Summer Camp

In summer 2012, the Gonzaga University Startalk Chinese Program will offer two sessions: 

SESSION I ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS:

This session runs for two weeks, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from June 25th through July 6th (no class on July 4th). This session is intended for beginning language learners, and in addition to language lessons, it will also include arts and crafts, games, singing, dancing, and other cultural activities. Lunch and a snack are included. Cost: Due to federal funding, our elementary school program is offered at no cost.

SESSION II MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:

This session, for grades 7 - 12, will run for four weeks, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from July 2nd through July 26th. There is no class on Wednesday, July 4th, but instead, class will be held on the next Friday, July 6th. Students in this session will have 16 face-to-face instructional hours per week, and an additional two hours per week through a distance-learning format. In addition to the Chinese language component, the course will also include several hands-on workshops conducted by native Chinese on topics such as dance, watercolor and calligraphy. Lunch is included. Students who meet the age and GPA eligibility criteria and who successfully complete the course are able to receive four college (semester) credits in Chinese language. Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria for college credit can apply for high school credit. Cost: $220. Scholarships available.

An application for the middle school - high school sessions consists of:

1. A completed APPLICATION form.
2. A completed TEACHER RECOMMENDATION form.
3. A completed GUIDANCE COUNSELOR form.
4. High school students: send a current transcript from your school; middle school students: send a copy of your report card.
