Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellowships

Outstanding students pursuing a PhD degree in the applied physical, biological, and engineering sciences have the freedom to innovate and explore their genius in collaboration with leading professors in the field.  Deadline for 2010 academic year is October 31, 2009.

EPA Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) program, is offering Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) undergraduate fellowships for bachelor level students in environmental fields of study. The deadline for receipt of paper applications is December 10, 2009 at 4:00 PM and December 10, 2009 at 11:59:59 PM ET for submittal of electronic applications to Grants.gov. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 30 new fellowships by July 30, 2010. Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years of undergraduate study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years. The fellowship provides up to $19,250 per year of academic support and up to $8,000 of internship support for a three-month summer period.

National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (REU)

Motivated students and those looking for a change in scenery, should check out the National Science Foundation supported research programs for undergraduates. These programs specifically recruit/target students from undergraduate institutions such as Gonzaga.

The 2009 Murdock College Science Research Conference

This year the Murdock Research Conference is right here at Gonzaga University.  The conference is an annual event sponsored by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust each fall, and is hosted by a different college or university each year.

The National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)
April 15 - 17, 2010
The University of Montana, Missoula, MT

The NCUR was established in 1987, and is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for undergraduate students.

Pasteur Foundation Undergraduate Summer Internship Program

The Pasteur Foundation of New York offers its Internship Program to U.S. undergraduates to conduct 10-week summer internships at the Institute Pasteur. The goal is to encourage students in the pursuit of a scientific career and to expose them to an international laboratory experience.

Rocky Mountain National Lab in Hamilton, MT

University of Colorado at Boulder
Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

The MORPH Research Coordination Network provides support for visits of undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctorals, and early career faculty (assistant professors) between organismic and molecular labs for periods ranging from a few weeks (to learn specific techniques) to a semester (to complete the equivalent of a lab rotation and take coursework not available at the home institution). This element of planned networking activities comprises the largest component of the MORPH funds and is open to any individual with an interest in bridging the gap between organismic and molecular aspects of the evolutionary developmental biology of plants.

University of Minnesota, Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve

The Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (formerly Cedar Creek Natural History Area) of the University of Minnesota has opportunities for students to work as Research Interns in three types of positions; 1) Plant community ecology, 2) Wildlife biology, and 3) Environmental education. Most positions run from June through August, but some interns are needed as early as March and some are needed through December.
