SEEN: Supporting Entrepreneurs and Strengthening Spokane Communities
In the School of Business Administration, our mission extends far beyond the classroom. We prepare students to become leaders who serve others, uplift communities, and use business as a tool for positive change. One of the most powerful examples of this mission in action is the Spokane Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Network, known as SEEN.
SEEN was launched through a partnership between the Gonzaga University, Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, and the Urban Poverty and Business Initiative at the University of Notre Dame. The program is built on a simple and transformative belief:
When individuals are given the right tools, support, and community, they can change their lives and strengthen Spokane at the same time.
Creating Pathways for Spokane’s Hidden Entrepreneurs
Across Spokane, many people have strong ideas, talents, and dreams but face economic or personal obstacles that make traditional business pathways difficult to access. SEEN exists to open those doors. Through a 12 month program, entrepreneurs receive continuous guidance from nonprofit partners, government offices, local businesses, and the Gonzaga University School of Business Administration community.
SEEN focuses on:
- Supporting the creation of new and profitable small businesses
- Strengthening existing ventures owned by individuals who have been historically overlooked
- Developing both the entrepreneur and the business together
- Identifying and sharing best practices for lifting families out of poverty through entrepreneurship
- Measuring progress and celebrating success across the entire program
The impact of SEEN was immediately felt during its first fall bootcamp, and the momentum continues to grow.
Bootcamps Designed to Inspire Growth and Confidence
SEEN entrepreneurs participate in a six week bootcamp filled with learning, collaboration, and hands-on support. Guest speakers, faculty, and business experts provide real world insights that help entrepreneurs strengthen their ideas and develop practical skills.
A unique feature of the program is the involvement of students from the Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program and the Gonzaga University School of Business Administration. Students work directly with the entrepreneurs, offering consulting support in areas such as branding, marketing, financial planning, and strategy. This partnership allows students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real businesses and real community needs.
Participants leave the bootcamp with confidence, new networks, and tools that help turn ideas into sustainable ventures.
Applications for future entrepreneurs and mentors are available on our website at https://www.spokaneseen.org/, where visitors will also find additional program information.
