The Computer Engineering faculty have proudly awarded the Outstanding Senior Award to Marion Haviland, recognizing her exceptional technical skills, leadership, and unwavering dedication to engineering excellence over the past four years.

"Marion has demonstrated outstanding academic performance, earning President’s List and Dean’s List honors. Her commitment extends beyond the classroom, as seen in her internships with Boeing, the U.S. Air Force, and Gordon Food Service, where she applied her expertise in FPGA design, DevOps, and energy harvesting systems," wrote Professor and Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Yanqing Ji, Ph.D. Beyond her technical achievements, Marion is a distinguished leader, serving as Vice President of the Society of Women Engineers, a Climate Literacy Fellow, and a Gonzaga Green Fund council member.

Marion says her proudest accomplishment is her work with the Climate Institute. "It lets me give back to the community by teaching kids about climate change, helping them understand the real-world impact of environmental issues and informed decision-making," she said.

That volunteering spirit was greatly appreciated by her professors. "She volunteered for four sessions of the student panel during Preview and SEAS visit days, demonstrating her commitment to engaging with prospective students. Her ability to mentor, innovate, and collaborate highlights her passion for engineering and the positive impact she has on the Gonzaga community," Ji said.

Marion is one of the first students completing the new Robotics concentration in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She plans to return to Grand Rapids, Michigan to consider options, including the possibility of graduate school.

With her blend of technical acumen, leadership, and service, Marion exemplifies the excellence of Gonzaga’s Computer Engineering program.
