SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga University School of Leadership Studies is offering four certificate programs for professionals to pursue a passion, gain expertise, increase leadership skills, and advance their careers — providing a mark of distinction among peers.

The programs include: Certificate in Foundational Leadership, Certificate in Women’s Leadership, Certificate in Design Thinking, and the Certificate in Servant Leadership.

The Certificate in Foundational Leadership
is a nine-month individual leadership program designed to accelerate leadership effectiveness. Designed for a small cohort of high-potential professional leaders from numerous organizations and industries, the program helps students develop leadership skills and examine challenges from many perspectives. Its three-part model includes practical learning, leadership assessments, and mentorship. Topics include principles of leadership, emotional intelligence, courageous communication, employee engagement, organizational change, influence, and more. Often described as “transformational” by its alumni, the Certificate in Foundational Leadership (previously known as Emerging Leaders Program) has graduated 126 leaders from dozens of Inland Northwest companies over the past 13 years. The 2020-2021 program commences this September, with contingency plans in place for COVID-19. Applications are open through June 15.

The Certificate in Women’s Leadership is a three-month, primarily online course designed for professionals who wish to develop skills and practices for advancing women in the workplace. Open to people of any gender, the program exposes students to research and studies regarding gender in the workplace and offers practical skills for overcoming common barriers facing women in the workplace. Through a variety of speakers and instructors, students are exposed to topics including emotional intelligence, the confidence gap, gender & communication, compensation and negotiation, and work-life integration. While the majority of the program is online, there is also an on-campus immersion Sept. 18-19 (contingency plan in place for COVID-19). Enrollment is open through June 15 – no application necessary.

The Certificate in Design Thinking is a three-month, primarily online course designed to help professionals use innovative tools to solve organizational and societal challenges. Used in the most innovative companies around the world, design thinking is a human-centered problem-solving approach that leads to better products, processes, and services, regardless of the industry. Unlike many processes that start with assumptions and move quickly toward solutions, design thinking aims to help leaders understand the mindset of users, resulting in more focused, effective solutions. Students will apply design thinking principles to actual, real-time organizational challenges to gain a transformative shift in how they view and address problems. While the majority of the program is online, there is also an on-campus immersion Sept. 18-19 (contingency plan in place for COVID-19). Enrollment is open through June 15 – no application necessary.

The Certificate in Servant Leadership is a three-month, primarily online course designed to help individuals promote and shape organizational cultures in which people thrive. Known internationally for the study of Servant Leadership, Gonzaga offers in this course a focus on its application to real life. Through company case-studies, leader interviews, group discussions, and more, students will develop a toolkit to apply servant leadership to the workplace and beyond. While the majority of the program is online, there is also an on-campus immersion (date to be determined). Enrollment for our Spring 2021 opens Nov. 1.
