Spokane Community Resilience Collaborative
The Spokane Community Resilience Collaborative (SCRC) is a group of Spokane-area organizations committed to creating a thriving and resilient community. The group is comprised of representatives of organizations in diverse fields such as healthcare, education, government, and nonprofits who use their shared knowledge and expertise to support each other's work and jointly pursue new work to support a Spokane regional community that is prepared for and adaptable to change. Facilitated by the Gonzaga Institute for Climate, Water, and the Environment (Climate Institute), the SCRC primarily focuses on resilience to extreme heat and wildfire events and all their interconnected challenges.
Goals
- Develop city-wide extreme heat and wildfire smoke action plans for Spokane.
- Develop a network of climate resilient community buildings with supportive programming and infrastructure throughout Spokane.
- Create and maintain digital tools that provide educational resources to build household-level resilience to extreme heat and wildfire smoke.
Progress
- Version 1.0 of the Spokane Resilience Plans were published in summer of 2025 and are currently undergoing revisions.
- The Spokane Community Resilience Hub Network currently has ten hubs in the initial cohort for an ongoing pilot project.
- SCRC organizations are regularly supporting Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency in keeping their website SmokeReadySpokane.org up to date with resources and information on wildfire smoke. They also work to support Spokane Regional Health District in maintaining their website on extreme heat safety.
