Launch of Gonzaga's Climate Center - April 22, 2021
In response to the threat of global warming — and as an expression of our Catholic, Jesuit, humanistic mission — On Earth Day 51, Gonzaga University launched the Gonzaga Center for Climate, Society, and the Environment to serve Gonzaga students and our region by advancing innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, consulting, and capacity-building.

Photo by Erica FlockKeya Chatterjee is Executive Director of USCAN, and author of the book The Zero Footprint Baby: How to Save the Planet While Raising a Healthy Baby. Her work focuses on building an inclusive movement in support of climate action. Prior to joining USCAN, Keya served as Senior Director for Renewable Energy and Footprint Outreach at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), where she worked for eight years. Before that, Keya was a Climate Change Specialist at USAID. Keya also worked at NASA headquarters for four years, communicating research results on climate change. Keya was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco from 1998 to 2000. Keya received her Master's degree in Environmental Science, and her Bachelor's in Environmental Science and Spanish from the University of Virginia.
Jay Inslee, Governor, Washington State, is a fifth-generation Washingtonian who grew up in the Seattle area. He first became involved in public service in 1985 when he and Trudi, his wife, helped lead the effort to build a new public high school in Selah. Motivated to fight against proposed funding cuts for rural schools, Jay went on to represent the 14th Legislative District. He continued serving communities in the Yakima Valley when he was elected to Congress in 1992. The Inslees later moved back to the Puget Sound area where Jay was elected to Congress in 1998, serving until 2012 when he was successfully elected governor. Jay was re-elected governor in 2016 and 2020.
