Hooker Creek Ranch Scholarship
2010-2011 Recipient: Hannah Middleton
Hannah is in her senior year at Gonzaga, majoring in English Literature and minoring in History and Political Science. She chose English as her major, "because of its versatility in application to future careers as well as for my personal love of all things written. I couldn't imagine a better major, especially as this one gives me excuses to read books."
Her hometown is The Dalles, Oregon, "where I know the people wherever I go. I know the names and faces of everyone in my graduating class and could probably point out most of their parents." Her father is the pastor of a small non-denominational church and her mother is a middle school reading teacher's assistant.
Not only is Hannah the first from her family to attend Gonzaga, but she will be the first to earn a college degree. "As I approach graduation, I can know that my family is probably more excited for the moment than I am."
She has big plans for after graduation: "My immediate plan is to get a job teaching English as a second language in another country. Studying abroad this past spring ignited the desire to live in other countries and experience other cultures on a long term basis. Eventually I'd like to attend graduate school."
Hannah is very appreciative of the support provided by her scholarship. "Without this help, getting to Gonzaga would have been difficult for me. The education I am receiving here goes far beyond the bounds of academics; attending this school will forever shape my life and how I perceive the world around me."
