Personal Property Gifts
Gonzaga University's facilities can be enriched through gifts of personal property, including books, artwork, gently used computer and laboratory equipment, and software.
You are entitled to an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the object, provided the use of the object is directly related to the mission of Gonzaga University. If it is not, your income tax deduction is limited to your cost basis in the property.
The Internal Revenue Service requires donors to complete Form 8283 if the estimated value of the property is $500 or more. In addition, if the estimated value of the property is $5,000 or more, the IRS requires the donor to obtain an independent qualified appraisal at their expense. Gonzaga University will provide a tax receipt that describes the donated item; however, we are unable to assign a specific dollar value.
Gonzaga University examines all personal property gifts prior to acceptance.
