Post-Master's Certificate ProgramsFamily Nurse Practitioner:Family nurse practitioners provide a holistic approach to primary care for individuals and families of all ages and are able to manage a wide variety of both acute and chronic health problems. They particularly emphasize health promotion and patient involvement in management of health care problems. Family nurse practitioners work in independent as well as collaborative practice settings. Nurse Educator:This option prepares nurses to work as educators in academic, hospital, and community-based settings. Students develop an area of clinical specialization as well as skills in curriculum development, teaching-learning strategies, and evaluation. Particular emphasis is placed on tailoring content and presentation to learners' needs. Practicum experiences take place in a variety of educational settings. NURS 555, NURS 641E, NURS 642E, NURS 643E, NURS 644E, NURS 631E, NURS 632E, NURS 633E, NURS 634E (22 credits, 450 clinical hours) Psychiatric-Mental Health: Psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners/clinical nurse specialists provide primary mental care to individuals and families with diagnosed psychiatric disorders, individuals or populations at risk for mental disorders, and those experiencing a range of issues affecting emotional and psychological well-being. They promote optimal mental health and well-being using psychotherapeutic and psychobiologic interventions. They work independently as well as in collaborative or inpatient settings. Health Systems Leadership:Nurses in this option are prepared to assume administrative positions in inpatient, outpatient, community-based, and academic settings. Students gain knowledge and competency in financial and human capital management, as well as strategies for responding to clinical, ethical, and legal issues encountered in administrative roles. |
