After a year of hard work, our ASCE Concrete Canoe Team competed in the ASCE PNW Student Symposium at Portland State University in April. Competing against nine other schools in our region, the Gonzaga team paddled away with the following honors:

  1. First place in technical presentation
  2. Second place in final product prototype (the canoe itself)
  3. Second place in project proposal
  4. Third place in Overall Races

These awards compiled into Second Place Overall in the Region! This is a huge accomplishment that the students are very proud of.

"The students shined in problem solving and resourcefulness to overcome several challenges," said Professor and Club Advisor Sue Niezgoda, Ph.D. "They represented Gonzaga so well and showed great spirit and professionalism in all canoe events and interactions with judges and fellow schools. I couldn't be more proud of them."

This step closer to the goal of winning the region was accomplished under the leadership of co-captains Isabella Camarota and Rebecca Riley, plus project manager Brian Leung.
