Professor Acharya Elected New VP of Asian Society of International Law

During the 6th Biennial Conference of the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) in Seoul, South Korea, Gonzaga Law Associate Professor Upendra Acharya was selected to the position of Vice President of the Society’s Executive Council. The AsianSIL is one of the premier international law organizations in the world, with members from the judiciary, academia, and other legal bodies from around the globe. Professor Acharya has led AsianSIL’s work on human rights and taken part in AsianSIL leadership as a member of the executive council.

Professor Acharya will share the duties of the vice presidency with three other VPs: the Hon. Francis Jardeleza, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan Vice- President of the Saranrom Institute of Foreign Affairs Foundation and former President of Thai Airways Int’l, and Xinmin Ma, Deputy Director-General of Treaty and Law within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the People’s Republic of China. Professor Acharya has also been named as co-chair, with Justice Jardeleza, of the planning committee for the 2019 Biennial Meeting in the Philippines.
