The most well-known outbreak of the bubonic plague began with the arrival in Italy of a ship from Constantinople in 1347. Over the course of the next four years the disease swept slowly throughout much of Europe. Many misconceptions about that plague outbreak continue to circulate, despite decades of intense research by scientists and historians. Dr. DeAragon, Gonzaga's medieval historian, will discuss the transmission and symptoms, mortality rates, and consequences of the so-called Black Death.
