Course Reserves

Course Reserves

The purpose of Foley Library’s reserve services is to support faculty and students by managing limited circulation for items assigned or recommended in courses. This allows increased access to single items across all the students registered in a course. The items may be library-owned resources or personal copies from faculty.

  • Reserve materials are kept behind the Check Out Desk.
  • Current Gonzaga students, faculty, and staff are allowed to check out reserve items for a set number of hours or days.
  • Reserve items have various check out periods, ranging from 1 hour to 3 days. Check out periods are set by the user placing the item on reserve.
  • No overdue fines are collected for reserve items. Replacement costs may be charged for lost or damaged Gonzaga-owned items.
  • Reserve items may not be renewed.

Placing Materials On Physical Reserve

Gonzaga faculty, staff, or official University organization (including committees and clubs) may place library-owned or personal materials on reserve to support classroom assignments, coursework, and organizations. Items must be in copyright compliance. Physical reserves are located behind the Check Out Desk, and may be checked out by students for a set number of hours or days as determined by faculty or university organization
Deadlines for submitting library-owned course reserves requests are as follows, requests submitted after these dates are not guaranteed to be available or ready at the start of the semester. Please allow at least 24 hours for the library to process your reserve item. During peak reserve times (beginning of the term), processing may take up to 3 days.

Fall Semester April 15th preceding
Spring Semester October 15th preceding
Summer Term April 15th preceding

Personal Items on Reserve

Personal (non-library) reserve items may be put on reserve, with the following considerations:

  • Items are subject to minimal library processing, including affixing barcodes, tattle-tape, and call numbers.
  • Personal materials may be placed on reserve with the understanding that loss or damage is a possibility, and the library will not be responsible in case of such an occurrence.

Purchasing or licensing materials, eBooks, or streaming films for course support

Foley Library requests that faculty who need library-provided materials to be purchased or licensed to support their courses submit those requests directly to their Liaison Librarian in accordance with the listed course reserve deadlines.

All material placed on reserve must comply with University copyright policy.
