Join the College of Arts & Sciences for our Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series on October 10, 2023, featuring Chemistry alum and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirley Johnson. The Life & Loves of a Nuclear Weapons Inspector will take place in Jepson’s Wolff Auditorium starting at 4:30 pm.

Shirley Johnson is a renowned chemist who graduated from Gonzaga University with a BS in Chemistry in 1969. She has had an illustrious career in the nuclear industry, including working as a safeguards inspector at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where she was a member of the team that received the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize for their work in maintaining nuclear peace worldwide.

After retiring from the IAEA, she formed Tucker Creek Consulting, PLLC, where she provides expert advice on nuclear materials safeguards and non-proliferation issues. Shirley has authored over 80 technical papers and held office positions within several industry organizations.
