About This Event

Traditional Purepecha* mask-making artist Felipe Horta has been

creating exquisite masks for more than 30 years. He is driven by the

desire to keep the traditions of his hometown, Tócuaro, alive. His

creativity is refl ected in his creations - fantastic beings and whimsical

fi gures, carved in wood, which are used in regional celebrations. This

program begins with an artist reception in the Helen South Alexander

Gallery, moves to the auditorium for a brief presentation, and concludes

with a private tour of the Dancing with Life exhibition, led by the guest

curator, Dr. Pavel Shlossberg.

*The Purepecha are Indigenous people centered in the northwestern

region of Michoacán, Mexico.
