About This Event
In the Dance includes a selection of dance and decorative masks, mostly related to the pastorela danza, from the Lake Paztcuaro region of Michoacan. Within the pastorelas, religious figures and narratives mix and cavort with contemporary celebrities and other characters familiar to contemporary audiences. Through comic mixings and juxtapositions, present-day cultural meanings, experiences, and social issues are dramatized, explored, and presented back to the community in humorous and impactful ways.
