Back in March, hospitals across the U.S. had to make decisions about who would receive care amidst a shortage of hospital beds. Seven months later, many global leaders continue to make painful trade-offs daily: Does a country buy 10 malaria tests or one COVID-19 test? Do test results matter if a country can’t afford to care for these patients? Who should receive the limited global supply of vaccines? But the story doesn’t end here. Amidst mounting challenges, leaders are demanding more equitable access to critical COVID supplies, with some surprising results.
