About This Event
Partners in Science is a program that offers a $19,000 grant to high school science teachers to do research in a local university lab for two summers. We pay a stipend ($13,000 over the two summers) and travel expenses to two conferences each year of the grant. The conferences include professional development on translating the research experience into a change of classroom practices, truly making the NGSS science and engineering practices come alive. Many high school science teachers attest to the profound impact that this program had on their teaching.
We are hosting a virtual “Meet and Greet” October 1, 2020 to share our enthusiasm for the Partners in Science program and to recruit future Partners and Mentors. We welcome you to join us and bring a fellow colleague or two or three (either high school science teacher or researcher). We will help you learn how to get involved and potentially make a connection with a potential researcher/mentor.
Just think: one teacher-researcher influences 150 students/year. Over ten years of a teaching career, that equates to 1,500 students. If we bring on 30 new Partners next year, that can impact 45,000 young people—our world’s future innovators, problem solvers, and creative thinkers. Let’s do this together and enjoy a Grub Hub meal and friendly conversation.
