The Journal Club in the Doctoral Program in Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University is a forum for doctoral students and faculty to present journal articles, book chapters, or other scholarly works to colleagues. The interdisciplinary nature of our program should prove a rich context for surprise and delight. We would like to keep the presentations short and succinct and give everyone that wants to a chance to present. This experience is meant to be informal, enjoyable, and intellectually stimulating. It also can be a platform for developing and improving teaching and presentation skills.
Due to DPLS events that conflict with our normal meeting time, Journal Club has concluded meeting for the remainder of the Spring 2013 term. We will pick back up in the Summer 2013 term. Times and dates TBA. Generally, Journal Club gathers each Friday that classes meet. (View the DPLS academic calendar or the Journal Club google calendar for specific dates.) We meet in Tilford 117 from 4-5:15 p.m.
How to Present
Presenting is easy to do! First, please email Chris Francovich (firstname.lastname@example.org) to indicate your desire to present. Each person has 10 minutes to present. In addition to bringing 7-8 copies of your article (if possible), please be prepared to share these five things:
- What is the purpose of the reading and the apparent main focus of author?
- Can you explain the broad applications of the work to leadership studies?
- What is the availability of the article?
- Please describe the intended audience – also include brief description of the journal.
- What is your response to the author?
You may use PowerPoint, but you do not have to. Presentations are generally informal, and discussion is dynamic.
We are now putting all articles and presentation materials up on the web for public view. Go to our Google Drive folder to view past articles.
