Dr. McCann came to Gonzaga in 1992 from UC
Davis where he received his Ph.D. in Physiology.
Dan teaches courses in Anatomy and
Physiology, Research Methods, Scientific Writing, Exercise Physiology, Advanced Exercise Physiology, Environmental Physiology, and other Advanced Topics courses such as Pathophysiology. His research
interests include muscle metabolism,
thermoregulation, and the application
of dimensional analysis and similitude theory to the
study of rest and exercise energetics.

I earned my Ph.D. in Kinesiology
with a specialization in
Physical Development and Aging
from The University of Texas
at Austin. I am a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, an ACSM-certified Health/Fitness Specialist, and a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. My research projects have included motivators for and barriers to physical activity, risk factor relationships, body composition, athlete profiling, and talent identification in sport. Work-life balance and strategies for stress reduction are also of interest to me. I enjoy yoga, running, hiking, kayaking, and being outdoors.

Dr. Thorp earned his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. His primary area of research has been to examine how exercise promotes beneficial adaptations in cardiac muscle. He currently teaches courses in Anatomy and Physiology as well as Cardiovascular Physiology.

Also my anatomy students are welcome to come to the third hour of any of my lab sections for extra help. Please check your syllabus for these times.
I was born and raised in the New York metropolitan area, during which time I had the good fortune be introduced to an active sports medicine practitioners and educators. Through my education I was fortunate to learn about the preventative power of exercise. I have followed a path that provide numerous opportunities in the fields of exercise science and sports medicine.
