How do I get to the library?
The Foley Center Library is located in the middle of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. This first map shows you how to get to the campus. Once you get to campus, you will need to park and walk to the library. Here is a map of the G.U. campus. If you have any problems finding us, please call (509)313-5931.

How do I get a library card?
Gonzaga students, staff and faculty are issued ID cards when they first come to campus. There are two numbers on this card. The library card number is the 8 digit number on the front. If you did not receive an ID card for some reason, stop by the Student Accounts office in the basement of the Administration Building.
If you are an alumnus who is currently a member of the Alumni Association, bring your current Alumni Association card to the library and we will give you a card.
Community members may purchase library cards for $25 at the Circulation Desk in the Library. This card is good for one full year, and allows you to check material out. There may be additional fees for additional services.

How do I know if I have fines?
If you returned or renewed a book late you may have fines. Books that are damaged or lost may also have fines. You can check your library account online or call the Circulation Desk at (509)313-5803 to find out if you have fines.

How do I renew or recall a book?
You can do a lot of things online with your card including renewing your books. All items can be renewed up to eight times unless someone else has requested them. Books from the Popular collection may only be renewed twice. Reserve items cannot be renewed at all. Interlibrary Loan books might be able to be renewed, but we must first ask the lending library. Of course, you can always call and renew your items or ask questions at 313-5803.

How do I reserve a book so that I get it next?

If Foley Center Library owns a book you want, but it is currently checked out, you have several options. You can place a hold on the book using your library card information. The person who has it now will not be able to renew the item. When they return it, a letter will be sent to notify you, and it will be held at the Circulation Desk for seven days.
If you need the item right away, you can call 313-5803 and have a "recall" put on the book. This allows the person who has it two weeks to return the item. We will inform you when the item has been returned and hold it at the Circulation Desk for seven days.

How do I use the library catalog?

The library catalog searches all the books, periodicals and audiovisual material in the Foley Center Library. If you are looking for a particular article or articles on a subject, you will need an index or database. The catalog has many search options, the most frequently used being title, author, subject and keyword. You can truncate a word or name with an *. To broaden your search add "or" between two search terms. To narrow a search add "and" or "but not" between two terms. If you have any questions call the Reference Desk at 313-5931.

How do I search for an article on a particular subject?

If you are researching a specific field, try our subject pages. These pages list databases and indexes that are designed for that field, and have other resources available. If you have a more general topic, try one of our indexes or databases. Many of these are online and available outside of the library. Some of the databases have full text and can be printed out. If you find an article that is not full text that you would like, check the holdings to see if the Foley Center Library owns the journal.

How do I use the on-line databases from home?

All current Gonzaga students and staff can use the databases from off campus. Some of the databases will require a name and password to log on. These are the same name and password students use to login to Zagmail, and any of the computer labs on campus. The databases and indexes are listed on this page. If you have any problems getting into one of these databases call the Reference Desk at 509-313-5931.

How do I check the status of an Interlibrary Loan book?

With the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system you can check the status of all your ILL requests at any time online. Simply login to your ILLiad account and select one of the options under the "Review Requests" heading. You can also call the Interlibrary Loan Department at (509) 313-6534 to find out about the status of an ILL book

How do I check out a video camera, or other media equipment?

The Instructional Technology Support Services is a department in the basement of the library. They are the primary resource for audiovisual, media and technology support for the Gonzaga University community. Call 313-6664 for their service desk.

How do I copy information I can't check out of the library?

Foley Center Library has 3 copiers/printers for the Gonzaga community to use. Your Gonzaga ID card is used to access the machines and holds the balance of your account. You can add money to your account at the Circulation Desk. The main floor has a black & white machine and a full color machine. There is also a black & white machine by the Lower Level Computer Lab.

How do I check out books at other libraries or search their catalog?

Your G.U. library card works at Gonzaga Law Library, Whitworth, North Idaho College, University of Idaho and Idaho Law Library. You can search their catalogs online just like ours.

How do I find information about computer issues on campus?

Information Technology Services has developed a web page with information about their computer services including Blackboard, Zagweb and computer labs on campus.

How do I use ZagNet?

ZagNet accounts allow you to login to the computer labs and gives you a Gonzaga e-mail address and space on Barney for your own web page and document storage.More information is available on the ITS web page for Barney..

How do I access my files on the H drive from off-campus?

Enter ftp://username@barney.gonzaga.edu into Internet Explorer's address bar. At the prompts, enter your ZagNet username and password. You can use Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox (not IE 7) to upload and download files from the FTP server! To upload a file, just click and drag the files or folders you want and drop them in the open Explorer window. To download files, click on the file you want downloaded.
