Admission Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is for individuals seeking initial preparation and licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
There are three ways to enter the BSN degree program for initial licensure:
1. Freshman Admit Program
High school students, in the fall of their senior year of study, apply for admission to the nursing program through Gonzaga University's admission process. Once admitted, students will be in the nursing program beginning with the fall semester of their freshman year. Students may select the 8 or 9 semester option for completing a BSN degree.
During their first two years at Gonzaga, students need to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.9 and achieve a C grade in all of the pre-requisite nursing courses, with the exception of Biology 101 and Chemistry 101 and their respective labs. A C- is acceptable in these courses. If a student receives below a 2.0 in any of the five pre-requisite science courses, the student may retake one pre-requisite course one time only. Continuation to the upper division BSN program is contingent upon successful completion of the first two years of college coursework. After completing the first two years, students will begin coursework and clinical experiences in a variety of community and healthcare settings. The program also prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) after graduation, a requirement for licensure as a registered nurse.
2. Gonzaga Students
Gonzaga students who were not admitted into nursing as a freshman cannot declare nursing as their major. They may work on core classes and nursing pre-requisites but they are not guaranteed entrance into the nursing program. The nursing department does not maintain a waiting list. Any vacancies that become available in the pre-set nursing cohorts will be opened to competitive application from qualified Gonzaga students(fall and spring semesters). Applicants will be evaluated on their portfolio which includes their GPA, letters of recommendation, resume and a personal statement listing their goals and strengths
3. Undergraduate Transfer Admission for Nursing Currently Unavailable
Due to the limited amount of nursing practicum space available, no transfer nursing spots will be available in the near future.
