Pursuing the Common Good

Visiting Writers Series

The Gonzaga University Visiting Writers Series brings distinguished authors to campus to engage both the Gonzaga audience and the wider Spokane community. The series fosters artistic collaboration across disciplines, encourages intellectual curiosity and seeks to share the wonder and challenges of living a creative life.

William L. Davis, S.J. Lecture Series

The William L. Davis, S.J. Lecture has for over 50 years featured scholars who have traveled from Europe, Canada, and across the US to present their research. Their research has provided open discussions about a variety of topics that have enriched our campus and exchanged ideas with Gonzaga students, staff, and faculty, and the greater Spokane community. Recent lecture topics include the Vietnam War, US immigration policies, Washington WWI veterans, race, freedom, and the law, Civil Rights activism, children during the Civil War, the Afghanistan War, and our shared national narrative.

Flannery Lecture in Catholic Theology

The Flannery Chair of Roman Catholic Theology is an endowed Chair gift of the late Maud and Milo Flannery of Spokane, to further excellence of theological study and teaching at Gonzaga University. The Religious Studies Department invites an outstanding theologian twice per year to deliver The Flannery Lecture in Catholic Theology.

“Enhancing Gonzaga’s presence among Jesuit and peer institutions, the Institute ensures that students are prepared to listen, reflect, and respond as people for and with others”
