My teaching philosophy has evolved over the past decade and is largely influenced by both cognitivist and constructivist approaches to adult learning. As a teacher and mentor, I feel responsibility to assist students in gaining insight into their individual learning needs and prepare them for successful navigation of their professional practice journey. As such, I value authentic teacher-learner relationships, empowerment and value-based teaching. My greatest sense of fulfillment comes when I catch an “ah ha” moment, sense palpable enthusiasm, or see a spark in the learner’s eyes. It is my hope that thru a learner-centered collaborative approach to teaching, I can contribute to igniting enthusiasm for life-long learning. In doing so we can, together, create a stronger nursing profession and become better prepared to care for the patients we serve.
