Today began with the students creating their presentations on social sustainability in Rotterdam from yesterday’s bike tour. Each group talked about the neighborhoods toured, discussing how estimated scores for the physical, social, and safety indexes were similar and different from the scores assigned by the City of Rotterdam.

Dr. Brianne Dorie gave an introductory lecture on the public health risks that urban heat islands bring. After this, the students broke into teams and used Flir thermal imaging cameras to measure different materials around Delft. With this data, the students will write about the heat island effect in Delft and how infrastructure can be designed to mitigate it.
