Why did you return to school for a master’s degree?

I did the masters program a bit later in my career, once I felt like I truly knew what I wanted to pursue. This program was for the love of learning and deepening my craft. I am passionate about leadership development and wanted to become the best practitioner I can be.

Why did you choose Gonzaga and the online Master’s in Organizational Leadership (ORGL)?

I was looking for a program that would not just teach me facts to memorize and recite but would expand my thinking. I also was looking for a program that was values aligned and would further my personal growth. I found Gonzaga’s Ignatian approach to be deeply transformative and the focus on servant leadership and justice aligned with who I want to be.

How has the program helped you in your current career so far?

I use what I learned every day as a leadership development advisor and coach. Challenging my own mental models, welcoming the perspectives of others, and helping others to become healthy, wise, and free (as Robert Greenleaf says) have become my mandate.

What surprised you about the program?

I was surprised by how much the program changed me as a person. The discussions in class and deep reflection challenged my assumptions and shaped my perspective for the better.

What was your experience with the faculty?

I am so grateful for the wise, patient and gracious professors I engaged with. They encouraged me in my journey, were available for discussion and questions when I felt stuck or challenged, and were champions of my growth. I could tell they cared for me and the other students beyond simply grading assignments.

How was it building community during the online program?

I met incredible like-minded people during the program, many of which I am still in touch with. The depth of discussion in the discussion boards created a bond with classmates I never met in person.

What advice would you give to someone considering the ORGL program?

I cannot recommend this program enough! If you want a program that will challenge how you think and shape who you are as a leader, this is it. This was not just a Master’s program, but a transformational two years that has changed who I am as a leader.
