Milt Priggee Donates Historic Archive to Foley Library
Limited-Edition Bookmark Series Announced
Foley Library is honored to announce that nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist Milt Priggee has donated his personal collection—spanning 48 years of sharp wit, incisive political commentary, and Pacific Northwest history—to Gonzaga University’s University Archives and Special Collections.
Priggee’s work is deeply woven into regional journalism, notably through his long tenure at Spokane’s The Spokesman-Review. Over a prolific five-decade career, his biting satire and visual storytelling have appeared nationwide, with reprints in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, and CNN’s Headline News.
Now residing in Oak Harbor, Washington, Priggee’s career has earned wide recognition and numerous prestigious honors, including awards from the Overseas Press Club, the Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition, the National Newspaper Association, the Associated Press Society of Ohio, the Mencken Awards, the Pacific Northwest Journalists, the Small Business Foundation of America, Inc., and The First Iran Internet Cartoon contest.
To commemorate this landmark acquisition, Mr. Priggee has granted Foley Library permission to feature three of his original cartoons on a series of collectible, limited-edition bookmarks.
The bookmark releases are timed around key community and seasonal milestones:
- Fall Sports & Football: Available starting the week of November 2, 2026, celebrating the height of high school and collegiate football season.
- American Education Week: Available starting November 16, 2026, spotlighting an education-themed cartoon in honor of educators, students, and lifelong learning.
- Bloomsday 2027: Available starting May 3, 2027, honoring Spokane’s storied road race tradition just ahead of race weekend.
Each run is strictly limited to just 35 copies. Bookmarks will be available for pickup on a first-come, first-served basis at the Foley Library Circulation Desk beginning on each release date. Once they are gone, they are gone!
Gonzaga patrons are invited to visit Foley Library, pick up a piece of regional journalistic history, and explore the legacy of Priggee’s work preserved in our permanent collections.
