Discover Your Story at Camp Foley: (Re)connecting with Spokane
This summer, Camp Foley invites middle schoolers to the Foley Center Library for an immersive four-day journey (8:30 am – 4:30 pm) into the heart of the Inland Northwest. Under the theme “(Re)connecting with Spokane,” campers will step out of the classroom and onto Gonzaga’s campus to discover where we come from, how we live today, and how they can shape the future of our community.
By the end of the week, our campers won't just know more about Spokane; they’ll see themselves as a vital part of its future!

Note to Parents: While the themes of history, technology, and ecology remain constant, specific hands-on activities and guest appearances may evolve as we finalize our summer curriculum to provide the best possible experience for our campers.
An Integrated Journey of Discovery
The week at Camp Foley balances high-energy exploration with thoughtful reflection, moving from the library’s "hidden history" to the high-tech future. Campers will experience:
- Historical and Environmental Discovery: Students begin as History Detectives in the University Archives handling vintage artifacts, then head outside as Environmental Stewards. In partnership with the Gonzaga Institute for Climate, Water, and the Environment, they’ll explore the landscapes of Lake Arthur and the Foley Quad to connect with our region's natural heritage and discover how a changing climate impacts our local community.
- Campus Exploration and Innovation: Campers venture along the Explorer’s Trail to landmarks like the Bing Crosby House, the Jundt Art Museum, and other Gonzaga cultural resources. Back in the library's Digital Scholarship Lab, they become Digital Creators, using 3D design and digital storytelling tools to express what "belonging" in Spokane means to them.
- Mind and Body: We believe well-rounded growth is the heart of a great summer. Our curriculum balances focused time for independent reading to fuel the imagination with active outdoor games and collaborative team-building sessions in the Foley Quad.
A Community Effort
Camp Foley is more than just a library program; it’s a partnership. By working with the Gonzaga Institute for Climate, Water, and the Environment, the Gonzaga Office of Tribal Relations, and Gonzaga museums and galleries, we ensure our campers see Spokane through a variety of lenses—geographic, social, and governmental.By the end of the week, our campers won't just know more about Spokane; they’ll see themselves as a vital part of its future!
