Every community has people whose dedication quietly strengthens the whole, and this week, one of those individuals is being celebrated in a big way. We are thrilled to share that Jillian LaBelle, Lecturer of Accounting has been honored by the Washington Society of CPAs as their Volunteer of the Year, a recognition reserved for members whose service, leadership, and commitment make a lasting difference. Her impact on Gonzaga students and the Spokane accounting community has been unmistakable.

A Mentor, A Leader, and a Champion for Students

To see Jillian in action is to see someone who cares deeply about her students and the accounting profession they are preparing to enter. In the classroom, she is an educator. In the hallways, she is a mentor. In the Spokane Chapter of the WSCPA, she is a connector, a builder, and often the spark that makes things happen.

Her nomination tells the story best.

Jillian’s work at Gonzaga has become a bridge between students and the accounting world. She encourages her students to get involved early, show up at events, shake hands, ask questions, and see themselves as future professionals. Under her leadership, student participation in WSCPA activities has grown, and many students have discovered internships, mentors, and direction because she opened the door for them.

Daniel Nguyen‑Fleming, Director of Membership, captured it perfectly:
“Jillian’s energy and dedication to volunteer leadership have made a lasting impact. Her close engagement with students and collaboration with the Spokane Chapter have played an important role in building connections and supporting the next generation of CPAs.”

Quiet Work, Big Impact

Behind the scenes, Jillian has been instrumental in organizing chapter events, coordinating opportunities for student involvement, and creating the kind of welcoming environment that makes professional spaces feel accessible rather than intimidating. She brings people together: students with professionals, new members with experienced mentors, curiosity with opportunity.

Her influence isn’t loud. It’s consistent. Genuine. And felt by everyone around her.

A Well‑Deserved Honor

The WSCPA Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes excellence in service, innovation, and leadership. Jillian embodies all three. Her work strengthens the Spokane accounting community, supports Gonzaga’s mission, and helps shape the future of the profession, one student at a time.

And so today, we celebrate her. Congratulations, Jillian. The School of Business Administration is proud to have you on our team.
