About This Event
Hosted by the Lincoln LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Brett Carter aka Fossil Daddy will share his experiences navigating STEM as a queer person and reflect on how his identity has shaped his educational journey and career as a scientist. He will also explore his work as a social media educator, discussing how digital platforms can make scientific knowledge more accessible, foster connections, and create opportunities for diverse voices to engage with STEM.
Blending his interests in Pokémon, paleontology, science education, and social media, Brett brings a creative and engaging approach to science communication. Through this unique combination, he makes scientific concepts approachable, sparks curiosity, and connects with audiences in ways that bridge popular culture and scientific discovery.
By connecting personal experience with science communication and social media, Brett will invite attendees to consider the importance of representation, belonging, and inclusive approaches to STEM education. His presentation will explore how scientists can share their knowledge beyond traditional academic settings and connect with broader audiences through digital storytelling and online communities.
Educators, students, STEM professionals, and community members interested in science communication, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and the evolving role of social media in education are warmly invited to attend.
