High School Counselor Information

Welcome, colleagues!

We are greatly appreciative of the support you offer to college-bound students and look forward to working with you throughout the application process. Please contact the Office of Admission with any questions you may have.

Admission Updates

  • We have extended our confirmation deadline to June 1. Due to nationwide delays in the FAFSA process, Gonzaga has extended the confirmation date to give students and families the time and support they need to determine their financial aid eligibility. Our team is here to help. For FAFSA support, visit our College Decision Help Center.
  • We are test optional indefinitely for all majors, including our direct entry program in nursing. (This also includes all awarding scholarships and applications for our Honors Program.)
  • Please view/share the recording from our Admission Webinar Series. The webinars cover such topics as how to apply, scholarships and financial aid, the Gonzaga community, our Honors Program, and more.
  • Gonzaga offers in-person campus visits and continues to offer virtual opportunities (i.e. virtual tours, student panels, info sessions, optional admission interviews, etc.)
  • If you have specific questions, please contact the admission counselor for your region.

About Gonzaga

Admission Policies

Admission Requirements

The following pattern of coursework is recommended for admission to Gonzaga:

  • English: 4 years
  • Mathematics: 3-4 years (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II/Trigonometry)
  • History/Social Studies: 3 years
  • Science: 3-4 years (Natural/Physical Science with Laboratories)
  • Foreign Language: 2-3 years (same language; ASL accepted)

*The Office of Admission highly encourages applicants to enroll in at least 5 academic courses in the senior year.

Gonzaga has one academic program that is considered a “direct-entry” program, meaning that a student must declare the major on the application to be considered for that program.

Nursing

Gonzaga's Nursing Program accepts first-year applications only.  Applicants must choose "Nursing" on their application to be considered. Admission to nursing is competitive. The Admission Committee will review curriculum carefully and likes to see math and science in the senior year of high school. An understanding of the nursing profession is helpful.

Students are not permitted to change their major to nursing after enrolling at the University. The Nursing Program is an 8 or 9 semester program. If a student has received college credit or earned an AA degree through the Running Start program, credits will likely transfer, but the program remains an 8 or 9 semester degree program. Enrolling with college credits may provide students with the opportunity to add a minor or study abroad, but will not allow for early entry into nursing courses.

Academic Profile

(averages for the incoming first-year class)

  • GPA: 3.71 (unweighted)
    Mid-50% range 3.6-3.9 (Unweighted)
  • Gonzaga is Test-Optional
    • ACT: Mid-50% range 28-32* (writing test not required)
    • SAT: Mid-50% range 1250-1408*
    • Review our Test-Optional FAQ for additional information.

*Gonzaga does superscore, both the SAT and ACT if multiple testing dates' scores are submitted.

Admission Interviews

Admission interviews are encouraged, but not required for admission. Students who have taken a strong college-prep curriculum, but who have an unweighted GPA at or below 3.2 are highly encouraged to schedule an interview with their Admission Counselor. Interviews can be done, via phone, video conference (Zoom), or in person during a student's visit to campus.

Running Start & Credit by Exam

The strength of an applicant's course curriculum is the most important factor in determining admissibility and eligibility for academic merit awards. Review policies for the exams listed below.

Application Process

Common Application

First-Year Application Deadlines:

  • Dec.1: Fall Admission Deadline
  • Feb. 1: Late Consideration Deadline
  • As soon as possible: Priority Deadline for FAFSA

Transfer Application Deadlines:

  • June 1: Fall semester
  • Nov. 15: Spring semester

Notification Procedure:

Students will receive an email to check their Gonzaga application portal for their decision. If admitted, admission decisions will be mailed directly to the student by posted deadlines. Decisions are not available over the phone.

  • First Year admission decision notification: by March 1
  • Transfer student notification: rolling
  • All first-year fall 2024 applicants have until our extended deadline of June 1 to confirm enrollment.

Financial Aid Process/Timeline:

  • Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) as soon as possible after the forms become available. Our Priority Deadline is as soon as possible.
  • Apply for additional Gonzaga scholarships by January 1 (except Music Scholarships which have a February 15 deadline and ROTC, which follows the Army deadlines starting with October 5, then January 11, and February 4).
  • Comprehensive financial aid offers will be mailed to accepted students who filed a FAFSA after admission notifications are released. *NOTE: Fall 2024 applicants can submit a request for an Estimated Financial Aid Offer (EFAO) and receive that sooner than official offers will be available. Additionally, many Gonzaga scholarships depend on information in the FAFSA to be awarded. Submitting an EFAO can allow a student to be considered for Gonzaga scholarships as early as possible.

*This is an optional process to provide timely financial aid information to students and their parents/guardians. Not participating in the Estimated Financial Aid Offer process will not impact the student's official financial aid offer. The purpose of this service is to provide students with the estimated financial aid information that they need to make their college decision. It is important to note that this process does not replace Gonzaga's standard financial aid process, which requires completing a FAFSA.

  • The Gonzaga Guarantee ensures that Gonzaga funded scholarships and grants will not decrease if a student maintains satisfactory academic standing during continuous full-time, four-year undergraduate enrollment.
