Pamplona ILC

Mission:

The Pamplona Integrated Learning Community nurtures reflective, responsible individuals rooted in Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic traditions who seek to pursue knowledge and cultivate understanding of their living and learning experiences.

Fast Facts:

St. Ignatius of Loyola, born Iñigo López de Loyola in the Basque province of northern Spain, was a vain young man, captivated by pleasure, privilege, and power. An unexpected shift occurred when a cannonball shattered his knee while fighting in the Battle of Pamplona in 1521. This pivotal incident profoundly affected St. Ignatius of Loyola socially, ethically, and spiritually, and marked the beginning of his new life.

Like St. Ignatius of Loyola, residents in the Pamplona ILC are reflective learners who seek to make meaning of their experiences. Residents are invited to participate in all of the LLCs in Coughlin Hall, Cura Personalis, Global Citizenship, Learns to Lead, and People for and With Others, and make connections across all four of the themes.

Additionally, all LLC students in Coughlin take a First-Year Seminar (FYS) together related to their LLC theme! FYSs invite students to explore how we pursue knowledge and cultivate understanding. Seminar classes change year to year and accepted LLC students will be asked to indicate their preference.

“The Pamplona Integrated Learning Community (ILC) supports first-year residents with their pursuit of knowledge in Coughlin Hall, in their classrooms, and in Spokane. The Pamplona ILC will allow residents to experience many cannonball moments that shape them and send them down a new path of learning, discovery, and friendship unlike anything they have previously experienced. Residents will be given the unique opportunity to participate in programs and reflect on experiences connected to leadership, holistic wellbeing, social justice, and the global community as they start their college journeys here at Gonzaga University.” - Joshua Somrah, Coughlin Hall Residence Director
