Julie Morris ('11), Sociology Major

Julie earned her BA in Sociology from Gonzaga in 2011 and her PhD in Sociology from the University of Washington in 2017. Julie’s doctoral research focused on social determinants of health and medicalization, specifically, as it relates to stress, health behaviors, and mental health outcomes.

Since graduate school, Julie has worked in a variety of research capacities, including as a Research Scientist at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation; as a Data Scientist for Starbucks; and as Director of the Demographic Research Lab in the Department of Sociology at Western Washington University, where she provided statistical consultation and taught courses on statistics and demography.

Returning to her home state of Alaska, Julie now works as a Biostatistician for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium’s Epidemiology Center. In 2024, Julie published an undergraduate sociology textbook through Routledge, titled “Introduction to Sociology Through Comedy.”
