In support of the campus community health and safety, access to Gonzaga University facilities will continue to remain restricted throughout spring semester. Your Gonzaga ID card will continue to provide you access to the buildings where you work, academic buildings, and facilities that provide services to all employees. All facilities will continue to be locked and only accessible with your ID card, therefore you must carry your Gonzaga ID card with you at all times in order to gain access. Gonzaga is operating in this way in order to reduce the density of people in facilities, reduce the incidents of non-community members access, and to aid in COVID-19 contact tracing. Similarly, students will only have access to common facilities as well as their own residence hall and all academic buildings.

Yes. In accordance with recommendations from county health partners, employees reporting to campus must conduct symptom monitoring every day before coming to campus. Employees living on campus should conduct symptom monitoring every day before departing their residences for work-related purposes. Employees should be ready to attest that they:

  • are free from COVID-19 symptoms;
  • have not been diagnosed with COVID-19;
  • have not been exposed to COVID-19; or
  • have been informed to self-isolate/quarantine until they have consulted with their medical provider.

Attestations, which is a confirmation of your health status, will be available through an online/mobile form or verbally with your supervisor.

Masks must continue to be worn by all employees working on campus in the presence of others (i.e. not working alone) and in public settings where other physical distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., common workspaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, etc.). Appropriate use of masks is critical to minimize risks to others near you. You can spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick. The masks are not a substitute for physical distancing. The University will continue to provide two (2) masks and one (1) face shield per employee.

In the fall, our Facilities task force evaluated areas where workstation modifications or plexiglass shields may be installed. We’re asking department directors to continue to assess their space and submit requests for specific workstations where modifications are appropriate.

Virtual meeting options will continue to be supported and offered for all meetings. University departments must continue to evaluate equipment needs. All ordering should continue to be done in consultation with ITS to ensure appropriate devices are being ordered, as well as any bulk purchasing considerations.


In the fall, we established a 3-part plan for thorough and regular cleaning: Custodial staff continue sanitizing all buildings according to COVID-19 guidelines; each department has some responsibility in common areas; and individuals are asked to regularly sanitize their own phones, computers, desktops, etc.


GU continues to work in close collaboration with the Spokane Regional Health District, which coordinates contact tracing for COVID-19 positive cases and for individuals who may have been exposed. The university developed processes to more readily support SRHD contact tracing. Two primary steps ensure we know how to reach people who may have been in contact with a person who is infected:

  1. All buildings are accessed by card key only, which tracks who enters and at what time; we also continue to ask employees to swipe cards when exiting, in order to have complete information on a building’s occupants at any time.
  2. All departments keep visitor logs to record guests to the area (including campus visitors, vendors, and on-campus staff from other departments).

We provide regular updates to this website and the myGU ZagOn 2020 site. Also, Human Resources offers online trainings and Town Hall meetings via Zoom. Continue to watch your email for upcoming dates/times.


Please continue to do your part by washing your hands, keeping 6 feet apart from others, staying home when necessary, and taking extra precautions not to touch common surfaces. For example, press the automatic door opener button with an elbow rather than grabbing the door handle. When you are working on campus, wipe down shared equipment and areas before and after use (copiers, conference rooms, etc.). These simple measures make a difference.

At this time, both the internal and external reservation inquiry portals at schedule.gonzaga.edu are still inactive due to the uncertainty of space assignments for the rest of the academic year 2020/2021.
