Why are you in admissions at Gonzaga?
I’m in Admissions because I am a first-generation college graduate. The college application process was an unknown process for me. It was so unknown that I only spent one semester at the college I initially chose to attend. Without the staff at Gonzaga assisting me with the transfer process, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Being able to pass down the pride I have for Gonzaga to prospective students helps me feel like I am giving back to students that may be struggling to navigate their future. I love Gonzaga, so having the opportunity to serve future Zags is something I will always appreciate.
Where is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus would have to be the McCarthey Athletic Center. It’s in “The Kennel” that you see Gonzaga students showing the rest of the country just how spirited Zags are. As a student, the anticipation of a big Saturday night game went unmatched for myself. As a staff member, watching students across the arena jump, yell, and sing showcases the cohesion amongst our student population. Lastly, as an alum, it’s where I run into friends I attended games and classes with, which gives me the opportunity to hear about the paths they have taken. For me, “The Kennel” showcases all stages of the Gonzaga experience.
What is one piece of advice you have for prospective students?
Choosing a college will be easier for some, and harder for others. Keep in mind that all of your friends will have a different college experience than you, and that’s okay! This doesn’t mean their experience will be better or worse than yours, it just means your experience will be unique. When considering colleges, try and find the school that will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and learn more about yourself during college and beyond. Also, reach out to a Counselor if you ever need assistance; we’re here to serve you!
